Sam Adams announces “The Boston Lager Cut”

June 23rd, 2010 | Posted By DeVries Archive

On Wednesday, June 23, the Sam Adams team launched the Boston Lager Cut, an all-new cut of beef designed to be the perfect pairing for Sam Adams’ flagship beer, Boston Lager.  The Sam Adams brewers partnered with artisanal meat producer Jake Dickson to develop the cut, and Jake invited the media to his Chelsea Market shop along with Sam Adams brewer Grant Wood to kick it off.  The two instructed everyone on the cut selection, pairing and preparation in anticipation of summer grilling and fall entertaining coverage in the coming months.

The launch of the Boston Lager Cut garnered lots of interest and with a Boston Lager in hand, each guest was given a behind-the-counter tour of Jake’s shop.

PUR Water Climbs to New Heights

February 1st, 2010 | Posted By DeVries Archive

It’s been a busy year for the PUR Water team – but even more so for the climbers that were involved in SUMMIT ON THE SUMMIT: Kilimanjaro (SOTSK). After six grueling days filled with blizzards, sleet and altitude sickness, the climbers reached their goal – the 19,340 foot summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro!

Why would they climb Africa’s tallest mountain? To raise awareness about the need for clean drinking water, as well as funds for the Children’s Safe Drinking Water (CSDW) Program and other clean water efforts.

Since 2004, PUR Water Filtration and the CSDW Program have worked together to ensure that people around the world have clean water to drink – in the U.S. with PUR Water Filtration Systems and in developing countries with PUR water cleaning technology. As a result, PUR was invited to team up with SUMMIT for the Kilimanjaro climb.

So why care about water?  4,000 children die every day from disease and illness related to unsafe drinking water. But thankfully with passionate support from organizations and individuals around the world, much is being done to help. The world has shown an outpouring of support for PUR and SUMMIT’s clean water efforts. PUR’s Facebook Page has jumped to almost 51,000 fans and celebrities such as Larry King, Justin Timberlake, Ashton Kutcher, Russell Simmons, Samantha Ronson and more have tweeted messages to the climbers who include:

• Kenna – Grammy-nominated musician and creator of SUMMIT ON THE SUMMIT: Kilimanjaro
• Jessica Biel – Actor (upcoming films Valentine’s Day and The A-Team)
• Emile Hirsch – Actor (Into the Wild, Milk)
• Dr. Greg Allgood – Director of the CSDW Program
• Isabel Lucas – Actor (Transformers 2)
• Alexandra Cousteau – National Geographic Emerging Explorer
• Kick Kennedy – Environmental activist and granddaughter of Robert F. Kennedy

Although the climb itself might be over, the fight for clean water has just begun! Queen Latifah announced the PUR/CSDW partnership with SOTSK at the People’s Choice Awards, and is spreading the word even further with appearances on the Today Show and Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.

You too can help support the cause and learn more by becoming a Fan of PUR on Facebook . For every one new fan, PUR will donate 10 liters of water to CSDW. And you’ll get first-hand scoop with pics, video and more!

Obama Snacks on Pepperidge Farm Crackers.

April 30th, 2009 | Posted By DeVries Archive

Stephanie Smirnov brings us this great post from her blog PR Mama. Also check out the chatter on Twitter!

Let’s get this out of the way: Pepperidge Farm is our client. We’re quite fond of them. It’s a beautiful thing working in an office where boxes of Milanos and Tim Tams literally line the hallways, I mean really – what’s not to love? Plus — they’re nice. They don’t make us cry (eh-hem.)

So we were bursting with pride and excitement to see in The Official White House Photostream that oh my goodness, President Obama snacks on Pepperidge Farm crackers. In moderation, of course, which we’ve come to expect from this disciplined and fit Commander-in-Chief. Has portion control ever been so artfully arranged, so elegant, so…commanderly??

Needless to say, the DeVries twitter critters (thx to my pal Jodi Balkan at BOLD PR for that coinage) sprang into action, tweeting and retweeting like fiends about the presidential snack (with full disclosure, don’t worry.)

For me, it came as a welcome distraction amidst gloom-and-doom pandemic news and other more mundane stresses (deadlines, neglected gym memberships, unreturned phone calls, etc.) Dare I say, I was inspired. Inspired by a White House brave enough to post behind the scenes images on Flickr. By the many new connections and colleagues I’ve discovered thanks to Twitter, and how it transforms how we do PR every single day. By the artful elegance of a plate of carrots, cheese, fruit and — yes — Pepperidge Farm crackers, a snack fit for a president and one that anyone can enjoy.

(Oh, and by the way, that’s not shilling or pimping, that’s me remembering that moderation can be a good thing and that perhaps I should rethink my afternoon iced mocha latte/peanut M&M ritual.)

Beef Short Course Event

June 30th, 2008 | Posted By DeVries Archive

Beef Short Course Event

After months of logistical planning, this week the National Cattleman’s Beef Association Team hosted a fun and educational media event called A Beef Short Course! The team set out to expand Beef’s relationship with key food media and influencers, offer concentrated education about Beef preparation and cookery.

We hosted the event at the Astor Center, a hip, new culinary venue that allowed us to provide media with a unique opportunity to learn about Beef. The venue was beautiful and provided the intimate setting we wanted for the day. The event was two fold, first offering an interactive demonstration where NCBA spokespeople Chef Dave Zino from the Culinary Center, Mary Bartz Director of Food Communication and Mary Young VP of Nutrition addressed the significance and value that Beef brings to mealtime, emerging protein research, and Beef’s unique ability to simultaneously deliver on consumer’s passion for its great taste. Then, we invited editors into the kitchen to roll up their sleeves for a hands-on cooking experience focused on lean Beef recipes that translated from summer time grilling to holiday entertaining. The editors had an opportunity to receive first hand tips and techniques from our experts, understand the characteristics of Beef cuts, solutions to time challenges, and various preparation techniques. Some of teams produced professional style dishes, and even opted to eat their own creations rather than the catered lunch—now that’s pride!
